”OFFERING” is my shared heart, a tender hug to the families of the missing Aboriginal women.
Kathia Rock
As a child, Kathia Rock is immersed in the creative effervescence of her community of origin: the Innus from the Côte-Nord of Quebec, a hotbed of artists, musicians and singers. She was especially inspired by the first author-songwriter: Philip McKenzie, the father of the Innu songs. Kathia was specifically initiated to musical creation by Claude Mckenzie, at the time of the group Kashtin. She gave her first performances in numerous competitions in her community. Exiled in Montreal, she writes songs in Innu and performs on several stages. She learned audiovisual and multimedia production, theater, dance, and various vocal techniques. Having embraced the music, Kathia nurtures her dreams in which the sacred Innu drum has co-opted her breath. She is one of the few Innu women to have received the consent of the Elders to play the teueikan, which is traditionally reserved for men. The power of her voice penetrates the flesh and the senses to their fundamental roots. The purity of her singing gives birth to the original child and appeases in the most nourishing of ways. Shaman of the soul and of the ages, Kathia Rock transports and infuses, by her guts and her art, human resilience in its most poignant, unflinching and calming of ways.
